Project
The first public bicycle system
To promote bicycle as an affordable transport many European cities have been using a system of public bicycle system. In Ukraine Nextbike Ukraine is trying to share this experience.
Nextbike Ukraine is a joint project of public-private partnership funded by GIZ and Nextbike GmbH from Leipzig.
The first public bicycle system was launched in 2016 in Lviv. The first stage of the project will involve installation of 22 stations in different parts of the city, which will accommodate about 220 bikes.
In 2015 the city saw the first 5 stations: at Franko National University, at Heroes of UPA Street (near Technopark), at Rynok Square, at S. Bandera Street (Lviv Polytechnic National University) and in Princess Olga Street (Aquapark).
Implementation of such projects is an important step towards European norms of urban development where the infrastructure will be comfortable for citizens, and pedestrians, cyclists and drivers will respect each other.
