Project
Historically sensitive renovation
10% of all Ukraine’s nationally registered historical monuments are located in Lviv. The city’s historical old town is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but just beyond it are several equally important historical residential districts that cover an area of ??2,500 hectares.
Running through them are complete streets of impressive local Art Nouveau style houses, evidence of the construction boom that took place in Lviv at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Careful step-by-step urban rehabilitation
The project promotes a careful approach to urban renewal. It supports measures that are carried out step-by-step together with the owners of apartments and buildings. Although this often involves extra effort, incremental rehabilitation is not only realistic from a practical point of view, but it also establishes a process that is ongoing and sustainable.
The priorities are to ensue that:
- A historical building, with all its valuable features and details, keeps its identity as a unified object in the long term.
- Apartment and building owners are actively and financially involved in maintenance and renovation measures.
